Uncovering Original 7Ven-The Time on The Skillet Saturday, January 12, 2013 08:01 AM
Morris Day and The TIme, the band project originally formed by Prince in the 80's and featured in his breakout movie "Purple Rain" are mostly known for their funky dance song from that movie - "The Bird".  After the film Morris went solo and released "Oak Tree", guitarist Jesse Johnson had a string of solo hits including "Can you Help me?" and "(I Wanna) Be Your Man", while original bassist and keyboardist Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis made a name for themselves as producers with everyone from Janet Jackson to Herb Alpert

In the early 90's the group reformed and released the album "Pandemonium" which included many of the same kind of funky Prince inflected grooves they were known for - but it also included something else.  Two Full-On Hard Rock songs, the first one being "Skillet".

in recent years the original members of the Time have reformed and are now calling themselves "Original 7Ven". (Since Prince apparently still owns their original name "The Time")

During the 90's Jesse Johnson went through quite a few personal issues including some gun charges, he also released a ripping blues album called Bare My Naked Soul, his replacement in the time during that period was guitarist Tory Ruffin who is now back with his own group Freakjuice.
